Fort Macon State Park

Fort Macon State Park has a rich history dating back to the 1800s. Being a perfectly restored Antebellum-era fort, having a museum-quality education center, and an unspoiled shoreline for swimming.

Fort Macon is a great place to take the family and learn more about our area's history.
Walking Trials

One way to get closer to nature and get some exercise in would be to visit the Fort Macon State Park walking trails. The trails are a great place to get up-close and personal with some of the most beautiful landscapes we have to offer.
Public Beach Access

Maritime Museum

The North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort reflects coastal life, the seafood industry, motorboats, and more. Studies in marine life, science, and ecology are available for all ages.
This is truly a Crystal Coast adventure you have to check out!
Core Sound Waterfowl Museum

This museum highlights the culture of commercial fishing and the culture of duck decoy carving as well as many other things like quilting and cooking.
This museum has something for all ages and it's a really cool place to learn more about what life on the Crystal Coast used to be like.
History Museum of Carteret County

The History Museum houses an extensive collection of textiles, period clothing, furniture, military memorabilia, glassware, and artwork representing Carteret County residents.

Shevans Park and Splash Pad

Let the kids enjoy a day off the beach while still having a blast with a visit to Morehead City’s Shevans Park. Found within a city block that’s just west of the heart of the downtown area, this kid-friendly park has plenty of room to roam, and enough entertainment and amenities to keep the Crystal Coast’s youngest visitors actively engaged.

This park is recently renovated and fitted with a splash pad which is perfect for younger kids!
Atlantic Beach Skate Park

One other free fun place is the Atlantic Beach skate park and mini-golf. This is a fun-filled place with things to do for all ages.
There is a full concrete skate park complete with many rails and ledges as well as a deep pool-style bowl. This location also features an 18 hole mini-golf course and a large splash pad for the younger kids.
